Zoom Air, which received the schedule operating permit from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation on February 3, launched its inaugural flight from Delhi to Durgapur on Sunday. Zoom Air will start daily scheduled operations in the Delhi-Kolkata-Durgapur-Delhi sector on February 15. The same will be extended to Amritsar in the afternoon, followed by Delhi-Surat-Bhavnagar-Delhi, an evening service.

"We will fill the gap of sectors which are less catered to by other scheduled airlines".

A search on Zoom Air's portal showed a one-way flight from Delhi to Kolkata a month after commencement of operations is priced at Rs 2,850 (inclusive of base fare and fuel charge of Rs 1,972).

Zoom Air plans to expand route network to destinations such as Tirupati, Vijaywada, Mumbai, Shillong, Aizawl, Pasighat and Zero (in Arunachal Pradesh), Allahabad, Gorakhpur, Indore and Bhopal, with a likely daily operations.

The company has leased three CRJ-200LR aircraft from CRJ Aircraft Leasing, Dublin, out of which two have been imported. Also, for the first time "Meghalaya gets direct Air connectivity Daily to Kolkata and then further to Mumbai, New Delhi and major cities", as per the airline's portal

The aircraft that Zoom Air has in its kitty is Bombardier Canadair Regional Jets, of 50 premier seater long-range versions, with quiet cabin and fast cruise technology and fitted with high performance CF34-3B19 engines by GE Aerospace.

"We envisage a 18-20 per cent year on growth on such underserved and un-served airports and we have seen such massive air traffic growth in stations like Vijaywada, Tirupati, Ranchi and Chandigarh. It's all about connectivity and regular reliable services", said Dhar.
