Nemanja Matic and Diego Costa appear likely to miss Chelsea's pre-season tour as negotiations take place over their possible exits.

Matic, meanwhile, remains at Chelsea's training base in Cobham after reportedly telling the Blues that he wants to leave the club. His first full season back in England saw him make the 2014/15 PFA Team of the Year as he helped his side to the title.

Last summer, Chelsea attempted and failed to pry Lukaku away from Goodison Park, as a bid of £57m was deemed insufficient to persuade the Toffees to sell. But this isn't the general scheme of things at the Bridge, where owner Roman Abramovich's impatience at perceived failure regularly manifests itself in the form of hasty managerial departures.

However, the move was complicated by several factors, with Monaco vice president Vadim Vasilyev asking for a higher fee at the last minute and Bakayoko having signed several mandates with mulitple agents or intermediaries, making it difficult to identify the parties who needed to be paid and slowing down the process of finalizing the deal.

Joining Chelsea in 2014 for £21m, Matic has been a crucial part of the club's recent success.

Inter Milan have also shown interest in the Serbia international but will struggle to match his salary and contract wishes.

Jose Mourinho has discussed how he would like a more experienced player at the centre of his midfield to hold their position and protect his defence.

And, there are question marks over whether Chelsea will deal with Manchester United.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Borussia Dortmund, Alvaro Morata of Real Madrid and Andrea Belotti of Torino are all in the frame for an expensive move to West London. It's a nice number, and I asked the permission of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
