Telling Lies will be a cinematic experience just like Her Story, but it's going to have much higher production values. Word of a possible sequel to Her Story surfaced in 2016, when Sam Barlow tweeted that he was working on a game more accurately described as a spiritual successor to his narrative-driven title.

Annapurna Interactive will directly handle and oversee all production tasks for the live-action video component of "Telling Lies", including the shoot, post-production and final delivery of video assets to plug into the game. Shooting is scheduled to start either late 2017 or early next year. Apparently, Barlow has watched 1974's thriller movie The Conversation extensively for reference.

"Her Story", which Barlow developed with support from the Indie Fund, broke new ground in the games industry with its unconventional storytelling techniques. For movies, he said, the 1970s "were such a golden age exploring the intersection of government, society and individuals".

Her Story had players researching through videos of 1994 police interviews of a woman to try and determine what happened to the woman and her missing husband.

As well as new characters, this one will jump across multiple locations. We can let scenes run and unspool.

It's still a way off though - Barlow is still in the process of writing the story, currently fleshing out the finer details.
