Rapper DMX arrested, charged with evading $1.7mn in taxes

Kim alleged that DMX also once refused to tape reality TV show Celebrity Couples Therapy - on which he appeared in 2012 - until his payment check was reissued without withholding any taxes.

According to a press release from the Department of Justice and the U.S. Attorney's Office Southern District of New York, X is accused of concealing millions of dollars in income from the IRS to avoid paying a $1.7 million tax bill.

If convicted on all 14 counts, DMX reportedly faces 44 years in prison.

DMX also allegedly didn't file personal income tax returns between 2010 and 2015, and frequently had his royalty income deposited into his managers' bank accounts, who then provided it to him in cash.

According to prosecutors, DMX earned money from sources including musical recordings and performances, from 2002 through 2005, and incurred federal income tax liabilities of approximately $1.7 million, which went unpaid. The federal charges claim that the rapper received hundreds of thousands of dollars of income in each of those years.

The 46-year-old rapper has been arrested and charged for tax fraud, ET can confirm.

"Every time I turn around, cats got they hands out wanting something from me", hip-hop legend DMX lamented in his 2003 hit "X Gon' Give It To Ya".

Known for his guttural voice and confrontational, frequently violent lyrics, DMX made his debut in 1998 with the album "It's Dark and Hell Is Hot", featuring the now-classic single "Ruff Ryders' Anthem".

DMX is due back in court on Monday. He has fifteen children. The rapper has had "arrests ranging from drug possession, DUI, theft and animal cruelty to probation violations, aggravated assault, failure to pay child support, possession of a weapon and more".
