US President Donald Trump and other government leaders in Washington are openly talking about a war with the North, which in turn is inciting the communist regime to threaten to launch missile strikes in the waters off Guam, which houses US air and naval bases.

Guam's governor on Thursday said the US territory was "well-equipped" to handle any North Korean strike thanks to robust infrastructure that had survived earthquakes and typhoons, after Pyongyang released a detailed plan to launch missiles towards the island. Japan's defense official said that Tokyo would invoke its right to collective self-defense if North Korean missiles are judged to be an existential threat to Japan.

"Americans should probably accept a joint proposal by Russia and China that both nuclear tests of the DPRK and military exercises involving the United States from the Korean Peninsula should be suspended simultaneously". U.S. officials said there was no major movement of U.S. military assets to the region, nor were there signs Pyongyang was actively preparing for war. "Some people [say], 'We just want our peace, our island groove that we've always have.' There are other people who are just sick and tired of the threats from North Korea because there sure have been many over the years".

Missile defence is an attractive but tricky strategy in dealing with missile threats. "And with me, he's not getting away with it", Trump told reporters in New Jersey. "The closer you get to that, you're stressing the performance of the system", he said.

The United States keeps about 30,000 troops along the North-South Korea border.

The Co Londonderry man (above), who was honoured for his contribution to island life on Guam between 1999 and 2004, said he is hoping that the situation can be resolved peacefully.

"The North Korean government tries to block the outside world as much as possible, and it does not want the North Koreans to aspire to the South Korean society", says Prof Kim.

"And with that said, I want to ensure that we are prepared for any eventuality", he continued. Greece, which has been in the headlines because of its ongoing economic depression and the migrant crisis, experienced record tourism in 2016 and 2017.

Guam, a tropical island more than 3,000 km (2,000 miles) to the southeast of North Korea, is home to about 163,000 people.

"The U.S. has maintained a regular bomber presence in the Indo-Asia-Pacific since 2004 and this mission demonstrated our continued ironclad commitment to regional allies".

"While our State Department is making every effort to resolve this global threat through diplomatic means, it must be noted that the combined allied militaries now possess the most precise, rehearsed and robust defensive and offensive capabilities on Earth".

Spain ceded Guam to the 1898, but the Japanese seized the island in 1941. One local newspaper, the Guam Daily Post, was even keen on convincing the hoard of visiting journalists to stick around for a "beachside barbecue".

If any of these commands detect a threat, it then moves to a quick decision about shooting down the missile with any number of missile defense systems that may be in the target area.

On June 5, 2015, Guam became the first U.S. territory to legalize same-sex marriage.
